Single Tooth Dental Implants in Mount Vernon
Dental implants have become the preferred method of replacing missing natural teeth. Whether you are missing one tooth or several, a tooth implant is an excellent way to resolve the problem and restore your smile. A single tooth dental implant is the ideal solution for many of our patients if a natural tooth is knocked out, lost, or extracted.
Advantages of Dental Implants
Why are dental implants so popular? Because they offer so many advantages over other tooth replacement methods. They look and function like your natural teeth, stimulating the jawbone with each bite, preventing deterioration of the jawbone. Dental implants also give you the closest match to natural teeth for a realistic look and feel. Other advantages include:
- No shifting or discomfort, unlike some dentures and bridges
- Implants can be brushed and flossed like natural teeth, making them easier to care for than bridges
- Easy to eat, speak, and laugh without worry
- Dental implants are convenient, with no need to remove them at night
- Implants do not harm your natural teeth
- Dental implants look and feel like natural teeth
- Dental implants contribute to a healthy, stable jawbone

Cosmetic Dental Implant for Missing a Front Tooth
If you are missing front teeth and considering an implant, the best time to have the procedure is as soon as possible. If you have been wearing a dental bridge to replace a missing front tooth, an implant can significantly improve your ability to bite and speak while giving you the added convenience of a permanent solution. A single tooth implant is also more attractive because it closely resembles a natural front tooth and will never slip or come loose, which can cause embarrassment.
Single Tooth Dental Implant Procedure
A single tooth implant procedure takes place over several weeks or months, with at least three visits to our office to ensure complete recovery and precision placement.
Consultation
The first step is a consultation with Dr. Bal to discuss your options. Dr. Bal does a complete oral exam, takes x-rays and digital images, and examines your jawbone to determine whether you need a bone graft before your single tooth implant. At this time, he will review your medical history and explain the dental implant process to you.
Single Tooth Implant Placement
Dr. Bal cuts into your gums and carefully places the implant, typically a titanium post. This replaces the missing tooth root. It takes three to six months for the jawbone to integrate with the implant and heal. During this time, a temporary cap is placed over the titanium post for esthetic reasons.
Abutments
An abutment (a metal fastener) is attached to the post when the jaw has completely healed. The abutment connects the implant to the permanent crown. Your dentist makes impressions of your surrounding teeth at this time to have the dental crown created.
Single Tooth Implant Placement
When the permanent crown is finished, your dentist will attach it to your implant using the abutment. Several materials may be used for your crown, including porcelain, porcelain over metal, and resin composites. Your dentist will discuss these options with you to determine the best choice for replacing your missing front teeth or single missing tooth.
If you have a single missing tooth or one damaged beyond saving, Dr. Bal can evaluate your situation to determine if a single tooth dental implant is right for you. Contact our office at Mount Vernon Periodontics & Implants Phone Number 360-424-5175 or use our online form to schedule a consultation.
